First, you need to buy a barbecue grill set. Sets are available which are designed to be set into a brick barbecue, with a tray for coals, a cooking grill tray and also sometimes a warming tray. Then you need bricks of course. Work out how many bricks you will need using the BBQ cooking tray as a guide.

Do I need special bricks for a BBQ?

Be sure that you specify hard, well-burned bricks. Bricks fired (or burned) at a high temperature are more heat resistant than other types and are best for barbeques. Only use clay bricks – never wire cut bricks.

Can you build in a normal BBQ?

Yes, you can, and I have done this for clients. You’ll want to make sure of a few things first: if your built-in grill has folding sides to act as a work surface you’ll probably want to remove them. Leaving them on, even folded down, causes some big unsightly gaps between the grill and the surround.

Can I use concrete blocks to build a barbecue?

Building a cinder block grill is straightforward. Once all the necessary materials are sourced, the grill only takes around approximately 10 minutes to build. However, cinder block grill plans can be adapted to make a slightly different or bigger design so that it might take longer.

How many bricks do I need to build a BBQ?
