What is meant by wider skills?

Wider skills is the term used for the skills which are associated with education, employment and life in general. They are skills which can be transferred to different situations and contexts to help a learner progress further. They are often referred to as transferable skills.

What is an ASDAN short course?

What are they? ASDAN Short Courses are flexible, portfolio-based programmes designed to accredit up to 60 hours of activity and skills development across a range of topics and curriculum areas.

Is key skills a qualification?

Key Skills can be studied as part of a full-time or part-time course at school or an FE college. There are no minimum entry requirements and you can study them alongside other types of qualifications such as GCSEs. Key Skills qualifications can: give you more confidence in your own abilities.

Awarding organisations can continue to offer key skills qualifications, and we are not requiring any changes to them. Schools and colleges can continue to use these qualifications as they do currently.

What is ASDAN qualification equivalent?

There are three formal levels of Qualification: Entry 1, 2 and 3 (Access) qualifications meet the needs of learners working below GCSE (Intermediate) level. Levels 1 and 2 (Intermediate) qualifications are comparable in size to GCSEs. Level 3 (Higher) qualifications are comparable in size to A/AS-levels.

How long do key skills certificates last?

Although a key skills registration lasts for three years, there are no specified guided learning hours or time-scales for completion.

What are wider Key Skills within ASDAN?

Within ASDAN students have also had the opportunity to work towards Wider Key Skills at level 1 and 2. The key skills are Working with Others, Problem Solving and Improving Own Learning. To achieve the qualification students are asked to plan, do and review specific projects working individually or as part of a group.
