So what exactly is the Digitone all about? Fundamentally it’s an FM synth workstation, offering four-part multi-timbrality with eight voices. You could treat it as a sound module that — when Overbridge arrives — will offer discrete outputs for each synth track over USB.
Is Digitone a good synth?
The Digitone is a great synthesizer. It’s perfect for my workflow – it’s internally sequenced, it can play chords for you, it has four voices, it’s very easy to get a cool patch going, and more.

Is the Digitone easy to learn?
Digitone is quite easy to program. Much easier than Yamaha fm (though those are actually quite easy to if you give it a few hours to understand what is going on). If anything, just changing algorithms is a quick way to get (sometimes good, sometimes bad) results.

With the Digitone you can literally have every style of all 4 tracks play a different sounding synth, and for the Digitakt you can have up to 128 samples in memory and every step could cycle through those 128 samples and modulate them in infinite ways for every style.

Digitone is multitimbral, in its particular case meaning that each of its voices can potentially play a completely different sound. Digitone Keys also has 4 additional tracks for MIDI sequencing, and the keyboard can also be used to play external gear live.

Should I buy a Digitakt or Digitone?
The main difference is Digitakt is 8 tracks, Digitone is 4; but both have 8 voices of polyphony, so with Digitone being able to play chords and Digitakt not (unless you sample them) they’re both pretty much on par in this respect too.
Does Digitone have song mode?
I’m thinking about a setup with only the Digitakt and Digitone. Unfortunately both machines don’t have a song mode. The goal is to create complete songs with the two machines and be able to recall them at any given moment.
Is Digitakt MIDI host?
The DT isn’t a MIDI host I’m afraid. You’ll have to go with a MIDI/ USB host box such as the hobbytronics one, it works fine for me with differing MIDI controllers and a DT or my other machines.
What does class compliant mean?
What does ‘class compliant’ mean? A class compliant device is one that doesn’t require extra drivers to connect your Windows or Macintosh computer, or to your iPad. Class compliant devices use drivers which are built into the host (i.e. the computer or the iPad) operating system.

Can you record into Digitakt?
I’ve had the DT for a little over a year and bought the OT MK2 a few weeks ago, yes you can record audio while you have a sequence playing, then assign the recorded sample with a max length of 33 seconds to one of the eight sample tracks and put it into the sequence live via a trig on the sequence.
What is class compliant audio over USB?
